We raise a variety of poultry here and have started to focus on endangered heritage breeds like Shetland Geese and Shetland Ducks. We have very small flocks that we are currently building in numbers. We do not currently have any birds for sale.
Shetland Geese For the time being and near future, we do not have any Shetland Geese available for purchase. This is an incredibly rare breed with very low fertility due to the auto sexing gene and a small genetic pool. I am currently working with another breeder to increase our genetic pool and hope to one day be able to offer goslings for sale. This such a special breed and we want to do our part to preserve it! Our 2 ganders and 3 geese came directly from Dave Holderread in Oregon who has done so much to preserve rare waterfowl.
Shetland Ducks We have a flock of 7 Shetland ducks that I had brought down from Willow Brook Waterfowl in Ontario, Cananda. This is another very rare breed both in the US, Canada, and UK. They are very fertile however but with a short laying season. These are friendly, long lived, hardy ducks that are great foragers! We are working to build our flock numbers and will eventually offer ducklings and adults for purchase. My fingers are crossed for 2021 for this.
Welsh Harlequin Ducks Our Welshie's are also from Dave Holderread. We were maybe too picky this year on the birds we retained. Out of the 15 ducklings we purchased, we are down to 3 ducks and 1 drake. We don't normally have a predator issue but the Raven's discovered how to get their eggs and we had an owl get a few of the other ducks. Yet again, we hope to rebuild the flock numbers but for now, we enjoy their eggs for our own eating, when the Raven doesn't get them! New digs for them coming soon.
Chickens I was really hoping to build a decent flock of Coronation Sussex, Light Sussex, and Speckled Sussex chickens but all of the other farm projects just haven't allowed this. I hope to one day offer these lovely birds for sale as well. Right now our girls are strictly for our enjoyment and food purposes.
Meat Birds and Turkeys Depending on interest, we may have Meat Birds and Turkeys available for purchase this fall. We raise Cornish Cross chickens and Broad Breasted Bronze Turkeys purchased from Jenks Hatchery in Oregon. Birds are moved to fresh grass daily and feed locally milled feed from Conway Feed. If you are interested in purchasing these, please email us at gffpigs@gmail.com or go to our contact page for further information.
